Description

Each January, the San Juan Preservation Trust coordinates a swan count in San Juan County as part of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife's (WDFW) annual survey of trumpeter and tundra swans. Collecting this data helps inform local and statewide habitat conservation efforts — it’s “community science” at its best!

This year, the Annual Swan Count will be on the morning of Saturday, January 18, 2025. For any questions or if you would like to request a specific area to search for swans, please email Liz Doane at lizd@sjpt.org. All registrants will receive further details about territory assignments and swan count guidelines the week of January 13, 2025.

For fun, we are hosting another photo contest this year! Be prepared to snap shots during this one-day "snapshot". If your territory turns out to be unoccupied by swans, your landscape or selfie photos will have an equal chance of winning. Our winner will be sent a Preservation Trust shirt, locally-sourced gift item, and their photo will be featured in our eNews.

We look forward to working together—adding valuable information to this conservation success story!
