Summary
Description
Led by Director of Special Projects Kathleen Foley Lewis, SJPT is hosting a free informational session at Red Mill Farm on the Western Bluebird, a native songbird that is now conservation-dependent in the San Juan Islands. Once abundant, their populations have declined due to habitat loss, and without active intervention, they may vanish entirely. As cavity-nesting birds, they rely on nest boxes that SJPT volunteers host, maintain, and monitor, as natural cavities continue to disappear.
Whether you’re a current bluebird volunteer or passionate about protecting these beautiful songbirds, we invite you to join us for an evening of discussion on the project’s progress, bluebird conservation, and opportunities to connect with fellow avian enthusiasts. Plus, snacks will be provided!
For any new volunteers, we ask that you watch our training videos ahead of time and come prepared to ask questions.
If you are already hosting a nest box or monitoring a nest box, now is the time to clean it out! This training video playlist shows you how and here are some more helpful reminders on how to maintain the nest boxes.
