Summary
Description
The Habitat Helper is a new, two-year commitment volunteer role created by the San Juan Preservation Trust as a way for members of our community to become more involved and engaged in recovery of the Island Marble Butterfly (IMB). Similar to other gardening ventures where members of a community can “adopt” a common garden space to care for, we are designing this program to allow islanders to adopt a Suitable Habitat Patch (a fancy name for a butterfly garden) to tend to—for the benefit of IMB and other pollinator species.
All registrants will receive further details about the program, fieldwork duties, and time expectations upon registration. Each registrant we will be required to attend this Habitat Helper information session on Saturday, March 15 from 9:30am–1:30pm.
- Leader: SJPT Director of Special Projects Kathleen Foley Lewis.
- Time: 9:30am - 1:30pm
- Location: Meet at Red Mill Farm Preserve (290 Valley Farms Road) on San Juan Island. We will then carpool to visit habitat patches at the Sundstrom Farm Preserve and Phelps Preserve.
- Bring: Weather-appropriate clothing, work gloves, water, lunch (snacks will be provided by SJPT).
- Questions? Email Liz Doane
We look forward to working together to strengthen pollinator habitats and recover this conservation-dependent species!
