Walk n' Talk: What Good is Dead Wood?

We’re excited to kick off our new Walk n' Talk series this March! Each month, we’ll be hosting a guided nature walk on SJPT protected lands, led by Preservation Trust staff and local guest experts.

Our first walk on March 19 will take place at the Beecher Preserve on Lopez Island, where Land Steward Troy Buckley will guide us through the woods and explore the fascinating question: “What Good is Dead Wood?” Troy will share insights into the vital role dead wood plays in the health of our island forests.

Please arrange your own transportation to Lopez Island. If you plan to walk onto the ferry, please let us know beforehand, and we can carpool out to the property together. For drivers and Lopez residents, we will be meeting at the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts (204 Village Rd.) and then carpooling to the Beecher Preserve.

• Time: 10:30am - 3:00pm
• Trail Difficulty: Approximately 1 mile of walking with moderate slopes and uneven terrain. 
• Location: Beecher Preserve on Lopez Island (meet at Lopez Center for Community and the Arts, 204 Village Rd)
• Bring: Weather-appropriate clothing and footwear, water, lunch (snacks will be provided by SJPT)

1. This event is limited to the first 12 people who sign up. (You can join the waiting list when you sign up if capacity has been reached. If there are cancellations, we will contact the next in line as soon as possible.)
2. All participants are required to sign an SJPT liability waiver. Please ensure that everyone you register, including yourself, has filled out our online waiver in English or en Español (required as part of the registration process).
