Description
The homestead of early settler Theodore Tharald is at the center of the Preservation Trust’s 344-acre Marilyn and Fred Ellis Preserve on Shaw Island. Built in 1883, the original log house is on the National Historic Register and stands as an example of the skill and hard work required to build a life in the islands in the mid-nineteenth century.
The Preservation Trust is pleased to offer guided tours of the homestead, sharing what we know of a long and rich history of connection to place, industriousness, and the ultimate gift of an extraordinary conservation legacy. Join us to learn more about the legacy we have inherited and ponder the one we will leave behind.
The following upcoming homestead tours are open to anybody without any prior registration (all tours start promptly at 1:30pm and go to 3:30pm):
- Saturday, April 12
- Saturday, May 10
- Wednesday, June 11
No registration required. Free of charge.
