Walk n' Talk: Forest Tour at JB Farm Preserve

What does the future of a forest look like? How do we care for our island woodlands to ensure they remain healthy and resilient for generations to come?

Join us for an inspiring morning walk through the beautiful JB Farm Preserve in Crow Valley. This guided tour offers a special, behind-the-scenes look at the preserve’s diverse habitats and an introduction to the San Juan Preservation Trust's long-term vision for its stewardship. Discover the science and strategy that goes into a sustainable forest management plan and see conservation in action. It's a perfect opportunity to connect with the land and learn how we are caring for this special corner of Orcas Island.

About Our Guides

We are delighted to have this walk led by two of our stewardship experts, Dean Dougherty and Meghan Howard.

Dean Dougherty, SJPT’s Director of Stewardship, brings nearly two decades of experience in land management and conservation. With a master's degree specializing in invasive plant control, Dean has been instrumental in protecting and restoring habitats across the archipelago.

Meghan Howard is SJPT's Stewardship Manager and leads our riparian restoration projects. With a master's in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, she has a deep passion for understanding and improving ecological communities. Meghan is directly involved in the exciting restoration work happening at JB Farm Preserve to enhance Crow Valley Creek.

Location: JB Farm Preserve, Crow Valley, Orcas Island.
Trail Difficulty: Easy to Moderate. The walk will be on established trails with some uneven ground.
Bring: Water, comfortable walking shoes, and weather-appropriate clothing.
