Seeing the Landscape: An Introduction to Nature Sketching with Nyssa Prowell

Join us for an inspiring, hands-on field class and learn to document your outdoor experiences in a new way.

Whether you are an aspiring artist or a timid beginner, this introductory workshop will put you at ease. Guided by illustrator Nyssa Prowell, you will learn the fundamentals of observation, explore basic techniques, and receive inspiring prompts to get you started. This is a wonderful opportunity to develop a new skill and deepen your connection with the natural world at our spectacular Ellis Preserve on Shaw Island.

About Our Guide

We are delighted to welcome Nyssa Prowell, a warm and engaging artist and illustrator based in the Skagit Valley. Nyssa holds a Science Illustration certificate from Cal State, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and her passion is helping others connect with nature through art. She recently created beautiful artwork for the interpretive panels at the Trust’s Marilyn and Fred Ellis Preserve, making her the perfect guide to help us see this landscape through an artist's eyes.

Bring: Water, comfortable walking shoes, and weather-appropriate clothing. All basic art materials will be provided, but please feel free to bring any personal art supplies you enjoy using.
