Walk 'n' Talk: Salmon Recovery at the North Shore Preserve
Description
Walk n' Talk: Salmon Recovery at the North Shore Preserve

How does protecting shorelines help salmon?
Join us for a guided walk at the North Shore Preserve, a newly protected 58-acre landscape on Orcas Island. With its upland forests, wetlands, feeder bluffs, tidelands, and over 1,800 feet of public shoreline, this preserve provides critical habitat for eelgrass and forage fish that salmon depend on. Learn how the San Juan Preservation Trust and San Juan County Conservation Land Bank partnered to save this place, and how its protection supports salmon recovery, healthy forests, wetland restoration, and public access for generations to come.
About Our Guide
We are delighted to have this walk led by one of our conservation and stewardship experts, Kathleen Lewis.
Kathleen Lewis has been with the San Juan Preservation Trust since 2005. As Special Projects Director, she leads species recovery efforts for the Western Bluebird and Island Marble Butterfly, and played a key role in securing the conservation easement that now protects the North Shore Preserve.
