Community Talk: Land Conservation in the San Juans (Orcas)

Why and how do we conserve land in the San Juans?

Join us for a public lecture that explores the why and how of land conservation in the islands. Together we’ll look at the reasons conservation matters for our communities, how the San Juan Preservation Trust decides which properties to protect, and how this work happens through partnerships, land acquisitions, and community support.

The lecture will also provide a closer look at our newest project — the 30-acre Mt. Ben West Preserve on San Juan Island. This acquisition will connect existing protected lands and create the opportunity for a future public trail system stretching from the shores of the Salish Sea to the summit of Mt. Ben.

Light snacks, beverages, and hors d’oeuvres will be provided!

About Our Presenter

We are delighted to have this talk led by one of our conservation experts, Gabe Epperson

Gabe Epperson joined the Preservation Trust in 2024 as a Senior Project Manager, bringing more than 20 years of nonprofit leadership in conservation and land use planning. He focuses on new land acquisitions. Before joining the Preservation Trust, Gabe served as Conservation Director and later Executive Director of the Whatcom Land Trust.
