Volunteer: Earth Day at Henry Island Preserve

Only a short boat ride from busy Roche Harbor, Henry Island Preserve feels like a world away, straddling the boundary between the shallow waters of Mosquito Pass and the blue depths of Haro Strait. Come enjoy some outer-island tranquility and pitch in with spring cleanup on this beautiful preserve. This work party will include light trail maintenance, beach cleanup, tending to new tree plantings, and potentially some weed pulling.

Listed start and end times are approximate. Work parties typically last 3-4 hours and are timed to meet tidal schedules.

Details about when and where to meet will be emailed to registered participants prior to the event. SJPT will supply tools and light snacks. Bring your own lunch and water bottle/beverage. Boat transportation will be provided, embarking from Roche Harbor Marina. 

• Date: Wednesday, April 22, 2026
• Time: 11:30am - 6:30pm. We will depart firmly at 12pm from Roche Harbor, and our return boat will depart at 6pm from Nelson Bay. The tidal changes are pretty extreme on this day, which is why times are differnt compared to past years. 
• Location: Henry Island Preserve (meet at Roche Harbor Marina). You will need to be able to enter and exit a boat onto a dock. At Henry, there will be a combination of walking on gravel trails and going off trail, sandy or muddy beach conditions, potentially muddy sections, and slight elevation gain on a few small sections of trail. There will be adequate amounts of walking and physical stewardship activities. During our time at the beaches, there will not be any shelter, so please pack appropriate clothing and personal sun/rain protection.
• Bring: Sturdy walking shoes for beach and forest trails, work gloves, water, and a lunch

This event is limited to the first 20 people who sign up. (You can join the waiting list when you sign up if capacity has been reached. If there are cancellations, we will contact the next in line as soon as possible.)

All participants are required to sign an SJPT liability waiver. Please ensure that everyone you register, including yourself, has filled out our online waiver (required as part of the registration process).
